For over 30 years guests have been enjoying a wonderful experience at the Allison House Inn.
Nestled in the gentle rolling hills of Southern Indiana, Brown County is very unique offering large gasping views, and worlds apart from the hustle and bustle of daily life. The Allison House Inn is the perfect complement to the quiet charm of this scenic area. With a mood and decor reflecting the relaxed lifestyle of its innkeepers, each of the Inn’s seven rooms is individually decorated with an emphasis on coziness, comfort, and charm.
You will enjoy sitting on the porch sipping a glass of wine after a long day at Brown County State Park or shopping in the village and perusing the art galleries and studios. In the winter, enjoy the smell of a woodburning fireplace snuggled up in the cozy living room. If Antiquing is your thing, we have some of the midwest's largest antiqe stores just three miles away. Located only a block away is the famous "original" Big Woods Brewery and recently added distillery.
The home itself was originally constructed in 1876 by the Allison family who were prominent figures in the community and started what would become the local newspaper, The Brown County Democrat. It is from this tradition by which the Allison House Inn is named.
The Allison House Inn was transformed into a Bed and Breakfast in 1986 by Tammy Galm, the original Innkeeper.
In the summer of 2004, Jeff & September McCabe along with Tim O’Bryan as the Innkeeper took over ownership of the Inn, also known as the entreprenuers behind Big Woods Brewery. The McCabe’s (Jeff and September) and the O’Bryan’s (Tim and Megan) owned and operated the Inn until 2017 when Tonya Figg and Ted Deckard purchased it and began making renovations restoring orginal hardwood floors and updating the timeless nostaglia of years' gone by. Most exciting is the addition of new main level king suites coming this spring! Guests have been coming for 30 years and have been made “guests for life.” In addition, guests will now be able to reserve the entire Inn at discount rates to bring their entire family to celebrate a wedding, anniversary, birthday, girlfriends getaway or a family reunion.
Ted and Tonya have lived in this area for many years and are a wealth of information on best places to eat, backroad studio tours, art galleries featuring local and heritage artists, TC Steele State Historic Site, kayaking, hiking, mountain biking or just enjoying locally craft-made libations. Tonya is the Publisher of Travel Indiana magazine and Ted is retired from the insurance industry.
If you enjoy animals you can vist Ted and Tonya's miniature donkey farm, Donkeytown, located just eight miles away near the TC Steele site in Belmont featuring recently restored barns built in 1884. See why these animals have been called the "most lovable animals on the planet."
